Boiled In Lead have long been pioneers in bringing “folk music” kicking and screaming to rock audiences (and rock music to screaming folk audiences). Now the “classic” BiL lineup returns to the studio with Silver, transcending its own history with this fresh collection.
From their first gig in 1983 at the now-demolished “Upper Deck” in Minneapolis, BiL have cut their own swath through the Irish tradition, forging a template distinct from The Pogues’ pub-punk. The band’s always brought the dark events of traditional songs to light, alongside powerful instrumentals that merge noise and finesse. Silver documents the return of original lead singer Todd Menton and the addition of masterful guitarist Dean Magraw, bringing expanded dynamics to the highly-identifiable BiL sound.
