Irish folk music has always had a rough, tough and raw edge: the sound of Irish working men letting loose in the pub after a hard day’s labor in industrial England. This thread starts with The Dubliners in the 1960s. In the 1980s, The Pogues were among the first to connect this music with punk rock.
Now (2004), we’re at the beginning of an underground Celtic-Punk revival with bands such as the Dropkick Murphys and Flogging Molly taking off from where the Pogues left.
ShitenOnions.com has helped to document and expose this scene. Editor John Murphy has compiled this forum for the best of the next generation of Celtic/Punk bands to be heard and for fans of this music to hear them. Most of these bands are self produced, self releasing or are otherwise hard to find in stores. Until now.
So, pull yourself a pint and crank up the shite!
